I see coaching and mentoring as a privilege, as I was so lucky to have had such great coaches and mentors throughout my life to inspire me to reach my potential, I hope to be able to give that inspiration back to other young athletes. ”
27 JANUARY 2002
Few players in the history of University of New Hampshire men's basketball have ever been as unique or underrated as forward Chris Brown. At about 6'3" and 225 pounds, he was equal parts pint-sized power forward and power-lifting point guard. Originally a walk-on, Brown never really got the playing time he deserved until he was a fifth year senior, at which point he seemingly found a different way to dominate the league every night. Despite typically giving away a half a foot or more every night, Brown averaged a double double, as a senior, scoring 13.4 points per game while ranking second in the league in rebounding at 10.1 boards per game - better than both of the league's true 7-footers and a host of other players who stood a head taller than him. In addition to ranking second in the league in rebounding and eighth in scoring, Brown ranked fourth in the league in steals and eighth in assists, leading his team in both. Additionally, his 48.4 percent shooting from downtown was best on the team. In this clip from Jan. 27, 2002, Brown slams home an offensive rebound against the University of Maine.
